Color Me Plaid

Every year I have a summer romance...with summer. While fall technically doesn't take over until September 23, emotionally and psychologically, I feel summer dumped me, as he does every year, on Labor Day.  I guess you can say I'm in transition.

They call this time in fashion transition wear, which to me just means that anything goes. You layer up and peel off as needed along with the wide temperature swings. It's also that time of year where we start seeing more fun and interesting textures and patterns: pony hair, suede, cashmere, and the uber classic fall staple, plaid.

The outfit I'm sporting this fine afternoon in SoHo incorporates both plaid in an adorable little shift dress from Theory and suede over-the-knee boots from Stuart Weitzman's very successful fall 2013 line. Side note: If you haven't already seen that campaign video with Kate Moss, you must watch it...like now.  It's that good, especially for the shoes lovers out there.

This is my interpretation of the the female NYC commuter, complete with flat shoes and headphones to drown out the general sensory overload of the city streets and subway. As temperatures cool during this transition, I'll be adding a collared shirt, blazer and tights to get me more mileage out of this outfit and past my summer break-up woes. Actually, I think I'm feeling a little better already.
